ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: Safe Place for Youth (SPY) is the leading service provider for youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness in West Los Angeles. Founded in 2011, SPY offers trauma-informed, low-barrier programs supporting young people in exiting the streets and achieving stability. The organization provides street outreach, drop-in services, health and wellness programming, case management, education and employment services, and housing programs.

ABOUT THE ROLE: The Nest Site Associate is responsible for general oversight of the property, cleanliness, safety, and maintenance. The role involves building rapport with youth, providing advocacy, coordinating activities/workshops/events, outreach, and providing crisis intervention and conflict management. The Site Associate works closely with residents to provide guidance and coaching on long-term daily living skills and identified needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct weekly room, developmental, and safety checks with each youth on-site
Host housing meetings to provide updates, mediations, and facilitate life skills events
Facilitate regular room check sessions incorporating harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and housing-first approaches
Monitor and document resident safety, child well-being, and overall progress
Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, mediation, and conflict resolution support
Build rapport with residents using trauma-informed, youth-centered approach
Coordinate and facilitate life-skills workshops, programming, and community-building activities
Support program operations including intakes, move-ins, and exits
Maintain accurate and timely documentation including progress notes, incident reports, and data entry in HMIS
Oversee daily site operations ensuring safety, cleanliness, and adherence to house expectations
Conduct routine house inspections and manage inventory of supplies
Coordinate food resources and meal support for residents
Maintain and update community resources; provide referrals and coordinate services
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure continuity of care
Schedule and support transportation for residents; transport as authorized
Participate in meetings, committees, trainings, and emergency preparedness activities
Assist with program reporting, outcome tracking, and data collection
Perform site-related errands and support overall program needs

QUALIFICATIONS:

B.A. or B.S. in Psychology, Sociology, or related field preferred
1-2 years of experience in homeless services, counseling, or related field; or experience in lieu of degree
2-3 years of relevant experience preferred, preferably with transitional-aged youth
Familiarity with Los Angeles social service resources and ability to problem-solve creatively
Strong written documentation skills required
Proficiency with electronic record systems and/or Clarity strongly preferred
Ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, and sexual orientations
Excellent communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively in community settings and independently
High personal accountability for quality and impact of work
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Dropbox
Valid driver's license required; driving record will be reviewed

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

Mandated reporter; legally required to report suspected child, elder, or dependent adult abuse or neglect
COVID-19 vaccination proof required; booster if eligible
Driver position requires DMV driving record, valid license copy, and proof of insurance
Job offers contingent upon satisfactory driving record
All staff considered introductory employees for first three months
