Job Description

Purpose and Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of the Thrift Store Manager, the Thrift Store Donation Assistant is responsible for delivery of excellent customer service while receiving and assisting with donated goods, issuing tax receipts, keeping accurate counts of donations, sorting, and transporting goods, while maintaining a clean and safe work area.

Job Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service to all donors.
  • Issue tax receipts to donors for their donated items.
  • Count, sort, and process donated items daily and report them to the Thrift Store Manager.
  • Maintain an organized environment for thrift store customers.
  • Restock donation items to shelves and tables.
  • Gather all trash and recyclable materials and dispose of them in appropriate receptacles.
  • Maintain and organize the C-Train and 95 facilities.
  • Transport bins, clothing, and merchandising fixtures to and from the C-Train and storage facilities in SLO County.
  • Driving to various locations to complete errands.
  • Some janitorial duties are required such as maintaining a clean store floor, bathroom, and kitchen areas.
  • Participate in regular all-staff meetings and other Lumina Alliance meetings.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Thrift Store Manager.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting 25-50 pounds unassisted is required.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time; ability to climb stairs and to lift, pull, and push.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, carrying and other movements may be required.
  • The employee will be required to perform these movements without risk of injury to themselves or others, or to demonstrate how they can perform the essential functions listed above.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in English is required; additional fluency in Spanish is preferred
  • Successful in prioritizing tasks and managing competing deadlines
  • Clearly communicate with the supervisor and other staff
  • Customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable interacting with diverse populations

Requirements:

  • Must satisfactorily pass a Live Scan background check, paid for by the employer.
  • Completion of Lumina Alliance's Disclosure Training
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Availability to work assigned shifts.

Position Details

Position Title: Thrift Store Donation Assistant
Reports to: Thrift Store Manager
Hours: Part-Time / 20-25 hours per week
Location: San Luis Obispo County
Salary Range: $25.00 - $28.98 (Bilingual differential of $1/hr if applicable).
