Career Coach

SBCS (formerly South Bay Community Services) transforms communities to support the well-being and prosperity of children, youth, and families. We are seeking a Career Coach to join our Youth & Community Wellness Program.

The Work Readiness for System Impacted Youth program offers paid work-readiness courses, educational guidance, paid internships, individualized support, and financial support to eligible individuals aged 16-24 who live in San Diego County and have been impacted by the justice system.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Career Coach performs outreach and recruitment, counseling, WIOA eligibility assessment, suitability assessment, assessment testing, and case management. Maintains confidentiality and acts as liaison between employers and the EXCEL program.

DUTIES:

• Perform outreach and recruitment of eligible applicants through program presentations
• Keep accurate written records and case files
• Conduct initial assessments including career interests and training readiness
• Provide case management services, follow-up, and referrals
• Conduct job search and work readiness workshops; provide one-on-one job counseling
• Collect data and input case notes into CalJOBS system
• Facilitate evidence-based groups for justice-impacted youth
• Provide safe transportation to clients as needed
• Develop relationships with EDD offices, One-Stop Career Centers, CBOs, schools, churches, and civic groups
• Develop employer contacts for job leads and internship/OJT opportunities
• Conduct site visits and collect documentation
• Coordinate job interviews and company tours
• Attend required meetings and training

REQUIREMENTS: BA or BS in Social Services required OR minimum 4 years experience in Workforce Development or related field. Minimum 1-2 years program experience with special populations (homeless, foster care, justice-involved youth). Excellent time management, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to engage others, maintain empathetic stance, de-escalate situations. Strong written and oral communication skills. Computer literate with personal computer familiarity. Ability to work with diverse populations, maintain cultural sensitivity, and handle confidential information appropriately.
