Intensive Services Foster Care (ISFC) Therapist

About the role

Under the supervision of the Intensive Community Based Services (ICBS) Clinical Supervisor, the ISFC Therapist is responsible for a caseload of children and their families. The therapist provides individual and family therapy as part of a multidisciplinary team working intensively with children/youth and families to address critical mental health and/or behavioral problems, stabilize the home environment, and reduce functional impairment.

Essential Functions:

• Provide field-based (home, school, community) therapeutic services and interventions based on client and family needs

• Complete all required documentation, reports, and outcome measures per program guidelines and timelines

• Build protective capacity with families using Core Practice Indicators (engagement, teaming, assessment, long-term view, planning, cultural competence, transitions, crisis management)

• Provide accurate and timely DMH billing while meeting agency productivity requirements

• On-call 24/7 to provide crisis support by phone and/or in-person

• May require LPS designation by Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, including assessment, writing holds, coordinating hospitalization and transportation

• Provide Trauma Informed Care and educate parents/caregivers

• Complete initial enrollments within contract timeframes

• Actively participate in team meetings and case conferences

• Administer outcome measures for children and families

• Create and maintain Plan of Care and Crisis Safety Plans in collaboration with team members

• Maintain client confidentiality

• Communicate crisis situations (psychiatric hospitalization, suspected child abuse, etc.) to supervisor immediately

• Provide comprehensive treatment services interfacing with psychiatric hospitals, DCFS, DMH, schools, probation, courts, law enforcement, and others as appropriate

• Maintain detailed and accurate documentation

• Consult with and serve as liaison to community agencies, schools, parents, and mental health programs

• Educate others on client needs

• Advocate for clients

• Participate in treatment plan development

• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and responsiveness

• Support justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives

• Actively participate in quality improvement projects

• Take on special projects or additional duties as assigned
