About the role

AbilityFirst is seeking a Human Resources Intern to gain hands-on experience supporting the people who help deliver on the organization's mission of helping individuals with disabilities achieve their personal best.

This internship is ideal for students pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, or a related field. Interns will work closely with the Chief People Officer and HR and Operations teams on a variety of administrative and project-based tasks that support the employee experience from recruitment to retention.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interns will support key HR functions and initiatives, including assisting with recruitment efforts (job postings, screening applicants, scheduling interviews), supporting onboarding processes, maintaining employee records, and coordinating employee engagement activities. Additional duties include contributing to special HR projects related to training and development, retention strategies, and process improvement. Specific tasks include maintaining accuracy of candidate applications, organizing and screening CVs and resumes, managing job ads, assisting with company policy implementation, filing documents, answering inquiries, participating in Career Days/Job Fairs and company events, creating staff satisfaction surveys, and conducting research on HR analytics and trends.

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be currently attending a university or college pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree. Must be at least 18-24 years old with a valid Driver's License or State ID. An interest in Human Resources is preferred. Familiarity with AbilityFirst services is preferred. Must demonstrate professional work ethic, maintain flexibility, and possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Willingness to work with diverse populations required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, with changes in environment (office or outdoors). Physical effort/lifting up to 15-20 pounds at times.

POSITION DETAILS:

Schedule varies. Approximately 20 hours. College credit-based position. Mandated reporter under California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
