About the role

Sunrise Youth Leaders work with an assigned group of students at an elementary, middle, or high school within the San Bernardino Unified School District. Staff-to-student ratios are 1 to 20.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare Youth for Success: Create an environment that facilitates youth development outcomes. Promote and stimulate program participation with members. Provide guidance and role modeling. Provide homework help and academic support.

Program Implementation: Effectively implement and administer services and activities for students. Ensure student safety when implementing programs. Maintain organized and clean program spaces.

Supervision of Youth: Provide guidance, affirm positive behavior, and serve as a role model and mentor. Provide a safe environment through active supervision, clear expectations, and maintained clean program areas. Never leave members unsupervised. Implement and follow school behavioral guidelines.

Professionalism: Participate in staff meetings as required. Maintain good reputation and moral conduct in the community and on social media. Adhere to organizational policies, Employee Handbook, and Staff Code of Ethics.

REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED required. Must be 18 years or older (21 for high school sites). Must have at least 48 semester/72 quarter college units, a college degree, or pass the School District ESSA test. Experience working with children (volunteer work counts). Knowledge of youth development stages. Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to plan and implement quality activities. Ability to organize and supervise youth safely. Valid state driver license or California ID card. Must clear TB, drug screen, and fingerprint check. CPR & First Aid certifications required within 90 days of hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Primarily in-person at a school site. Approximately 85% walking/standing, 15% sitting. Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, pull, and lift up to 25 lbs. Work inside and outside with exposure to noise. Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 9:00 am.
