About the role
Senior leadership role responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all people operations, including employee relations, compliance, benefits, leaves, and performance management. This role requires a hands-on strategic approach to manage tight budgets and support a mission-driven staff.
Responsibilities:
Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support HR compliance and strategy needs. Administers or oversees HR programs including compensation, benefits, leaves, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, occupational health and safety, and training and development. Monitors and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Establishes and analyzes key performance indicators (KPIs) such as employee net promoter score (eNPS) and missed meal and rest periods to make data-driven decisions. Maintains strong employer brand to attract top talent. Develops and implements departmental budgets. Works closely with Director of Talent Acquisition and Onboarding to identify staffing needs and develop hiring best practices. Leads workplace culture initiatives, resolves disputes, manages performance, and acts as liaison between staff and management. Facilitates professional development and training. Develops HR strategies aligned with company goals.
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of hands-on and progressive human resource management experience. 3–5 years of strong leadership experience with an HR team. Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience. Strong working knowledge of federal and multi-state employment laws (ADA, ADEA, Civil Rights Act, FLSA, FMLA, CFRA, PDL). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Proficiency with or ability to quickly learn HRIS (UKG) and talent management systems. Familiarity with non-profit workforce. Experience handling legal personnel cases and working with employment attorneys. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification. 10+ years of hands-on and progressive human resource management experience.
