Youth Development Specialist (Part Time Hourly)

About the role

The Youth Development Specialist (YDS) prepares and implements programs, supervises club members, and evaluates activities and outcomes within a specific program area, supporting priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship. This is a contracted position partnering with Redlands Unified School District staff to work on the school calendar schedule.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare Youth for Success: Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. Promote and stimulate program participation with members. Provide guidance and role modeling to members. Provide homework help and academic support.

Program Implementation: Effectively implement and administer services and activities for students. Ensure the safety of students is considered when implementing programs and activities. Ensure program space/area is organized and cleaned during and after use.

Supervision of Youth: Provide guidance, affirm positive behavior and act as a role model and mentor to youth. Provide a safe environment through active supervision, setting clear expectations and maintaining clean program areas. Never leave members unsupervised and implement and follow School behavioral guidelines.

Professionalism: Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings as required by the supervisor or senior staff. Maintain a good reputation and moral conduct outside of work, in the community and on social media networks. Adhere to organizational policies and procedures.

May participate in special programs and/or events. May be required to drive club van periodically.

REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or GED required. Experience working with children preferred. Able to review and implement lesson plans provided by the district. Knowledge of youth development stages. Early Childhood education credits are a plus. Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. Ability to deal with the general public. Ability to plan and implement quality activities for youth. Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Interpersonal skill development and maintenance. Valid State Driver License or California ID card. Must clear TB, Drug Screen and Fingerprint check. CPR & First Aid Certifications within 90 days of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, carts, sports equipment, etc. and reach overhead. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and multi-task. Job requires about 85% walking and/or standing, and 15% sitting. In-person working at Clubhouse. Exposure to noise. Will work inside and outside.
