About the role
The School Social Worker provides a range of social-emotional, behavioral, mental health, and family support services to students, families, and school staff. The position supports the overall educational mission of the school by helping remove barriers to student engagement, learning, attendance, and well-being through collaboration with students, families, staff, and community partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with school-based support staff, administrators, teachers, counselors, interns, and community partners to coordinate services and support student success
- Supports development and implementation of school-wide prevention and intervention strategies
- Provides individual and group interventions, counseling, case management, crisis response, conflict resolution, and restorative practices
- Conducts risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis intervention with required follow-up documentation
- Partners with families through consultation, resource linkage, conferencing, home visits, and ongoing communication
- Consults with instructional staff to support student engagement and behavioral interventions
- Participates in multidisciplinary meetings, including IEP meetings
- Provides Educationally Related Mental Health services and maintains accurate documentation
- Assists with parent education workshops, support groups, and family engagement activities
- Builds partnerships with community agencies to increase access to supportive services
- Supports attendance improvement efforts through intervention and family outreach
- Maintains current knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and best practices
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, school counseling, or closely related field
- Currently registered with California Board of Behavioral Sciences as ACSW, AMFT, or APCC
- Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential with Child Welfare and Attendance authorization
- Minimum 2 years experience in public, charter, or private school setting
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma-informed practices, and school-based mental health strategies
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish required
- Valid driver's license, personal vehicle, and automobile insurance (up to 25% travel within Los Angeles County)
- TB test clearance and immunization verification required
