About the role

The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is seeking a Secondary Math Coach for School Transformation to join our mission to improve learning and academic achievement for students in the Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts communities. The Partnership Instructional Coaching Program's purpose is to cultivate, align, and codify conditions for instructional coaching best practices. Partnership Coaches are key resources in closing opportunity gaps through building teacher capacity. Instructional Coaches partner with one school within our network and work onsite to cultivate teacher capacity by providing professional development, supporting teachers to develop and implement impactful curriculum aligned with Common Core Math standards, and collaborating with teachers using data to improve learning goals and outcomes.

This is a full-time, year-round position that is dependent on individual school budgets and organizational need. Expected to be in schools 80% of the time, and 20% in the Partnership office in Downtown LA or working remotely.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum Development & Implementation: Work with cohort and Math teams to develop and execute priority initiatives for Math instruction at Partnership schools. Develop and oversee the implementation of Math curricular materials, including curriculum maps, common assessments, technology-connected learning programs, and other tools to support teachers and students in meeting Common Core standards. Collaborate with school administration to support effective instruction of Common Core.

Teacher Coaching, Training, & Support: Build teacher capacity to implement Common Core Math instruction. Conduct regular classroom observations and facilitate coaching conversations with the goal of teacher growth and student learning. Design and deliver school-specific professional development. Lead the development of a team-based, collaborative, and data-centric environment for teachers.

Data & Impact: Facilitate data inquiries to assess progress and needs of schools, teachers, and instructional initiatives. Work with school leaders to plan for and lead data cycles with grade-level or department teams.

Teaming & Collaboration: Collaborate with school leadership, teachers, and Partnership teammates to enhance instruction and learning for students. Attend monthly Partnership all staff meetings and participate in Partnership Instructional Coaching Program meetings and retreats.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

A proven record of academic success working with students in historically underserved schools and setting high expectations for teachers and students, including at least 5 years of full-time teaching experience in grades K-12 and 2 years of school leadership experience (coaching, teacher leader, department chair, BTSA coach, peer observer, etc.). Bachelor's degree and teaching credential are required; a master's degree or other advanced degree is preferred. Experience designing, leading, and facilitating professional development for adult learners. Deep working knowledge of Math Common Core state standards. Comfort and skill observing and providing direct feedback to teachers. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with administrative staff, instructional staff, and support staff. Strong analytical and computer skills.
