About the role
Position Summary: Assists in the supervision of program participants and staff. Implements program curriculum in the classroom. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Essential Functions:
- Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program for children and families to include environment, curriculum, materials etc.
- Implement and promote NAEYC and ECERS standards to ensure a high quality, developmentally appropriate program for young children at all times.
- Assume responsibility for planning, providing, and evaluating indoor and outdoor environment, activities and routines to meet State and Licensing requirements.
- Promote a culturally sensitive, language driven environment that acknowledges and celebrates the diversity among families, and uses supplies and equipment that reflect the diversity within the community.
- Model and promote positive behavior, attitude and language while developing positive conflict resolution skills among children, parents and staff.
- Conduct activities that promote family involvement and relationship building.
- Document children's developmental growth with portfolios and discuss them with parents during periodic parent conferences.
- Train and mentor support staff to assure consistency in quality, curriculum and program philosophy.
- Maintain open lines of communication with participants, parents, staff and supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- 24 units of Childhood Education/Child Development units required including core courses at a WASC accredited institution. 16 units of GE in humanities/fine arts, social sciences, math/science, English/language arts at an EASC accredited institution.
- 175 days of 3+ hours per day within 2 years. Experience supervising and providing instruction to staff required.
- Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification and Health & Safety Class required within first 3 months of employment.
- Immunization record: Influenza or waiver, Tdap (Pertussis), and MMR (Measles).
- CDSS Mandated Reporter (AB1207) training required within first month of employment.
- Criminal Clearance including fingerprints.
- Health Exam Screening with Negative TB test and Negative Drug test screening.
- Ability to work with 2-5 year olds. Must support children with potty training.
- Basic computer skills. Strong ability to work with children with challenging behaviors.
- Must have minimum of 24 college units in child development or an AA or BA in Child Development.
