About the role

Join Alliance for Community Empowerment as the Director of Development and lead comprehensive resource development efforts—including fundraising, grant writing, digital presence, and donor engagement—to secure long-term financial sustainability. Collaborating closely with leadership, you'll oversee data-driven strategies that diversify funding, strengthen reserves, and drive meaningful impact across community programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct all aspects of ACE's fund development program; develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy that diversifies revenue across grants, major gifts, annual giving, and corporate/community partnerships. Partner with the CEO, CPO and Board Advancement Committee on short- and long-term development plans; serve on the executive leadership team; assess funding gaps and forecast funding needs across programs.

With Marketing, design and execute diversified strategies (annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, special campaigns, events) to meet or exceed revenue goals; build an individual giving program from the ground up with strong donor communications and stewardship.

Identify, cultivate, and steward individual, corporate, and foundation donors; maintain a comprehensive donor database via ACE's CRM; manage multiple revenue streams; engage key supporters with the CEO and Board to secure sustained or increased commitments.

Lead grant research, proposal development, and submissions for government, corporate, and foundation funding; collaborate with the CEO, CPO, and program staff on competitive proposals and budgets; coordinate post-award handoff meetings covering deliverables, timelines, and compliance.

Maintain a pipeline of prospective funders aligned with ACE's mission, leveraging grant search platforms; track renewal deadlines for existing grants and contracts.

Serve as staff liaison to the Board Advancement Committee; cultivate community partner and funder relationships; represent ACE at events and meetings; help identify prospective donors, volunteers, and future committee members.

Align development efforts with the annual budget alongside the CPO; monitor fundraising metrics and report progress to the CEO and Advancement Committee; ensure ethical fundraising, donor confidentiality, and regulatory compliance; maintain accurate records of contributions, grants, and pledges.

Supervise and mentor development staff, interns, and volunteers; train and support staff and board members in fundraising; ensure all activities reflect ACE's mission and values; support risk management through contractual/grant compliance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Strong project management skills with attention to detail and deadlines; proficient with technology, including written, multimedia, and video storytelling software. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; fosters a safe, positive, inclusive work environment; demonstrates cultural competence and humility.

Reliable, flexible team player who works well with minimal supervision; shows creativity, initiative, adaptability, and accountability; receptive to feedback, supervision, and procedural improvement with a solution-oriented approach.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; 5+ years of progressively responsible experience as a Development Director, Grants Manager, or similar senior nonprofit role, including 3 years supervisory experience.

Demonstrated success securing significant private, foundation, and government grants/contracts; experience managing donor relationships, campaigns, and events; knowledge of donor databases, CRM systems, and fundraising software.

Current California Driver's License, clean DMV record, and adequate auto insurance; must complete a DOJ criminal background check and credit check.
